TEACHING STRATEGY
STUDENT-CENTERED TEACHING AND LEARNING
Student-centered learning is an approach to education focusing on the needs of the students, rather than those of others involved in the educational process, such as teachers and administrators. This approach has many implications for the design of curriculum, course content, and interactivity of courses.
why student-centered learning should be integrated into the curriculum:
•  Strengthens student motivation
•  Promotes peer communication
•  Reduces disruptive behavior
•  Builds student-teacher relationships
•  Promotes discovery/active learning
ASSESSMENT OF COMPETENCE
The BTEC delivery style is characterized by:
Continuous assessments (there is no final exam) of learning outcomes from specific tasks given by assignments.
• Outcomes specified by criteria of achievement.
• Evidences of learning outcomes range from report writing, generated work, demonstration, presentation and reports…
• Assessments of achievements graded as: Pass, Merit or Distinction.
• Each unit has 3 to 4 outcomes that learners must achieve to get a PASS grade. There are no Fail in BTEC, only Refer or Ungraded.
• Learners are given another chance to achieve the requirement. It is not the end of the world.
• To get the full Awards, all units must get a pass grade.
• To get a PASS in one unit, all outcomes criteria for the unit must be met.
